MOR-BRAZ 10m (33 ft) - époxy-plywood
The specifications for Mor-braz are simple : Reliable, cost effective 10 meter boat, designed for circum-navigation around the tropics for a small crew – Simplified and strong construction using plywood-epoxy. Light (but not too light) displacement, that is to say without sea water ballast tanks. Strong rigging. Generous sail area. 2 meter draught. Roof with panoramic view to ensure a quality lookout, and optimized arrangements for sea navigation...
"With such specifications, the designer would generally have opted for an ordinary hull with sharp chines... I chose something different and preferred the old concept of sharpie. It corresponds to the easiest boat you can build, with platings fixed on a flat bottom of the hull which ensures an easier construction. We all think of the hulls of optimists or flat boats where the only chine is immersed. To soften the roughness of the chines and the "billhook" effect, the chine has then been rounded by a good radius with progressive strip-planking from bow to stern, which resulted in the final hull. With this technique, the style gets closer to the spirit of the lines of Melges 24, and even to the choices of the IMS rules, while keeping the charm of the use of wood as a main material."

Arrangements required by the owner feature a panoramic view in order to insure an efficient lookout. The fully equipped kitchen is U-shaped to allow the sailor to stand steadily when the boat is listing. Opposite the kitchen is the chart table where you can sit comfortably. On the starboard side at the back, there is a comfortable berth which can be adjusted through a system of tackles and from where you can check navigation instruments. It becomes a double berth when positioned to lay flat. On the port side at the back, a "technical" area allows you to store sails and equipment. There are also toilets in this area. The saloon is designed to welcome up to 6 persons, and there is a very large double berth at the bow. You have easy access to convenient lockers with large drawers where you can store food and fresh water supplies. A distribution of wood panels either lacquered in white or simply varnished creates a warm atmosphere. All the inside of the boat is designed without excess division of the volume to allow more space and depth.

In the cockpit, the lookout post right in front of the companion way offers a shelter from the sun and water. You’ll find in this lookout post 2 portholes which can be left open most of the time to ensure a good air circulation. The cockpit is quite deep for more safety, and the helmsman – according to the owner’s requirements- will have a removable steering post seat, which can be adjusted to sit more or less windward. The mainsail sheet rail is situated behind the tiller to allow more space in the cockpit. In the same way, the rudders are on the transom in order to gain room fore and aft. The life-raft is positionned at stern at the cockpit floor level.
